Why I'm striving
to be A great public servant
Like many, I struggled through high school to find “my calling.” I didn’t initially have a skill or passion or something I knew I’d make a career out of. It wasn’t until I found the pen and paper and began writing for my high school and college newspapers that I found that calling.
Unexpectedly, but fortunately, I found a new calling in 2018 when I took the position at the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation as the Nonprofit Program Director. Since then, I’ve been connecting nonprofit leaders to funding and education tools they need to be successful.
As I transitioned from journalist to nonprofit leader, I realized there was still the ability to follow my original calling, which wasn’t necessarily working in the news industry. It was telling stories and accomplishing tasks that make an impact on a community.
As I go through my career as a journalist, nonprofit leader, writer, husband, friend, son or whatever comes next, I know I’ll be seeking opportunities not centered around a job but rather around opportunity. So as I follow my calling, I’ll be working toward helping other find theirs.
