Carbon County Area Ride and Transit (CART)

CART is a five-day daily, demand-response transportation service created by the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation. With the help of our Transportation Advisory Committee, I worked with the team and Montana Department of Transportation to identify the need, secure funding and ultimately create the transportation service between July 2018 and February 2021.

In 2018, shortly after joining the team at the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation, I was hired as the Transportation Coordinator for the CART program. At the time, planning had been done to understand a desire for a transportation system in our county, but my goal was to put wheels on the ground and make the vision a reality.

In more than the two years following my new duties, I worked with community leaders, businesses and local, state and federal government to create a demand-response service. CART aims to provide safe, affordable and reliable transportation to those in our county.

Working with the team to create this transportation system was one of the highlights of my professional career. People began using it the first day it was operational, with one of its first rides helping someone get the COVID-19 vaccination.
